Isreal Heald
1736-1815

Picture
Above: Isreal Heald completed this farmhouse at 566 Acton Street in 1775 just before the outbreak of war. The property is today known as Stillmeadow Farm.

Israel Heald was appointed to serve as a minuteman for the town of Acton beginning September 27, 1774. On April 19, 1775, he marched on the Alarm of April 19th as an officer in Captain Jonas Robbins company. After the battle, he was made a captain in Colonel Eleazer Brook's regiment which marched from Acton to Roxbury on March 4th 1776.

When the Second District of Carlisle was established in 1780, Israel Heald was on the first Committee of Safety, and he also held many positions in the town church. Among them were prominent positions on the committee to find a minister, and on the 1781 committee that supervised the sale of the “pew ground” in the first meetinghouse.

Israel Heald is buried in North Acton's Forest Cemetery.

Carlisle Patriots Day 250 is a fiscally sponsored project of the Carlisle Historical Society with the support of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism and MA250. We work in close partnership with the Carlisle 250 Committee,  an official town committee formed to coordinate the town's commemoration of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
