Johnathan Heald began his service as a Private in Captain David Wheeler's Company in Colonel Nixon's Regiment stationed at Winter Hill in the winter of 1776. The following year, he joined Captain Abishai Brown's Company in Colonel John Robinson's Regiment and spent five months stationed in Rhode Island.

After the war in 1781, Johnathan was hired by the District of Carlisle to serve as one of the "school keepers" and was paid a bi-monthly salary of one hundred and ninety pounds for performing this service.

In 1802, Johnathan constructed the stately brick ended house at 84 South Street which today serves as the offices of the Assurance Technology Corporation. Throughout his life, he remained very active in town affairs serving as Town Clerk for five years, Selectman for twenty-one years, and as Justice of the Peace for sixteen years. In 1816, the year he died, he was elected to the State Legislature.

Johnathan Heald is buried in Carlisle's Central Burying Ground.

Carlisle Patriots Day 250 is a fiscally sponsored project of the Carlisle Historical Society with the support of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism and MA250. We work in close partnership with the Carlisle 250 Committee,  an official town committee formed to coordinate the town's commemoration of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
